Cadets may be sent home due to injury, illness or disciplinary/attitude problems at the parents expense.
NOTES ON MEDICATIONS
This is a medication friendly training. This means that cadets MAY be allowed to continue taking medications that they take regularly at home while at Fort Custer. Cadets DO NOT SELF-MEDICATE; all medicine will be turned into our medical staff, and your cadets will have the opportunity to take their medication during scheduled sick call times only. Cadets who bring inhalers or epi-pens will keep them on their persons at all times and will use them as needed. They must be documented IN ADVANCE on the appropriate medical forms, in the Parent Portal.
- Cadets will likely be marching and/or on their feet for hours. In the past in-grown toenails have prevented cadets from participating. A foot check will be done during check in. You may be denied training if you have an ingrown toenail. Check your feet now to see if you have an ingrown toenail(s) and see your physician to have it treated.
- A head lice check will also be done during check in. Please check your child at home prior to training and have the issue treated. Any cadet reporting with head lice will be sent home.
- IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT MEDS: BRING THEM! In the past, we’ve seen parents (or cadets) try to wean themselves off ADD/ADHD medications while at Fort Custer Training. Please don’t. This environment is not the place to go “cold turkey”. Talk to your doctor in advance and let them know your child is headed to an environment with many more stresses than normal home life. All meds MUST be in their original container from the pharmacy. Please don't mix meds to consolidate into one bottle. Since our medical staff administers the meds, we have to positively know what we're giving your cadets.
- The final decision regarding Training participation due to a medical lie with the Fort Custer Commanding Officer, per USNSCC Regulations. His/Her decision is final.
Medical Check-In and Restrictions
Cadets with pre-existing medical conditions that will affect training will not be allowed to participate. An example of this might be, a sprained ankle, an in grown toe nail, or a broken arm. While we want our cadets to complete their training, safety is our first concern.
Escort Officers/Parents will not leave Fort Custer during check in until notified that cadets have been fully checked in by the Medical Team.
Advance preparation on the part of you and your home unit staff will make this process go more smoothly and quickly.

Injury or IllnessWe pride ourselves in providing a safe training environment for the cadet, however, injuries or illness can occur. It is very important that you provide the current contact numbers to best reach you on the Request For Training Authority.
Cadets who are temporarily placed in light duty status (LDS) will be kept with their training company as much as possible and continue their academic instruction. Their status will be reviewed daily and may be sent home if they will be unable to participate fully to properly complete the training. AccommodationsCadets with accommodations must contact the COTC well in advance to determine if this training can accommodate the cadet and to develop a plan. The final determination of participation in the training due to accommodation lies with the Commanding Officer of the training, per NSCC regulations. The Accommodation form must be submitted to the COTC.
